The statue is of Mary Barbour a leading campaigner during rent strikes in 1915 that led to a change in government legislation, prohibiting unscrupulous landlords from raising rents and evicting residents who couldn’t afford to pay.
Shipbuilding and industry now replaced by more tranquil pigeons and wooden sheep, and the meeting place of Green Christian’s prayers held throughout COP26. Prayers focusing on those facing climate eviction and relocation, and those who cannot afford to pay for insulation of homes or the change away from gas boilers to heat pumps, and the unscrupulous landlords who still rent properties with below standard EPC ratings.
