Bishop Auckland Methodist Church

Young church – Sunday 14th of March

Mothers day 2021.

Today is mothers day, meaning a day to celebrate your mum, or grandparent. In order to celebrate mothers day, I would like you to compliment or treat your mum, or anyone else you would like to treat. Any compliment is good, or even just do something that you wouldn’t usually do. An example, would be making your bed without being told to, making a cup of tea (if you’re allowed to do this), or just saying thank you to her.

The reading for this week is John 3.14-21.

A gathering prayer for children

Loving God,
help us together to discover more about your love today.
Amen.

A sending out prayer for children

Jesus,
help us to trust you
as we take your love out into the world.
Amen.

Young church – Sunday 28th of February

This week, I would like you to think about things that do not always go right in every day life. In the story for this week, Jesus is telling his disciples about a difficult truth, about his death and resurrection. This leads to an argument with Peter. What things in your every day life, do not always go right? There is always things that do not go right, so what things would be included in this for you?

The Bible reading for this week, is Mark 8.31-38.

A gathering prayer for children

God of our ups and downs,
of our rocky moments and our best ones,
give us the courage to put truth before popularity
and to be Jesus’ friends through thick and thin.
Amen.

Listen to the song: Waymaker – Leeland.

A sending out prayer for children

When things get rocky in your relationships
may God bring us back together stronger and happier.
Amen.

Young church – Sunday 21st of February

This Sunday is the first Sunday in Lent, so therefore, I would like you to think about what you can change before Easter Sunday. Typically for lent, people tend to give something up for it. This year for example, I have given up all takeaway food. What can you give up this year, or what can you improve about yourself?

The Bible reading this week is Mark 1.9-15.

A prayer for the children:

Go in the knowledge that you are cherished
by the God who made you
and rejoice, in Jesus’ name.
Amen.

A prayer of praise and thanksgiving for children

We praise you, creator God,
for making each of us different
and yet for drawing us together as one family.
May our confidence in you
help us to find confidence in who we are.
Amen.

A prayer of praise and thanksgiving for children

On a mountain-top with Jesus
the disciples were in awe.
They just could not believe it –
what they heard and saw.
Help us, Lord, to see you today,
just as they did in that special way.
Amen. (Taken from roots on the web).

What do you think the word ‘Transfigured’ might mean? Why do you think it gained this name? How do you think Jesus would look? Does He look a bit like this in your mind? WHY?

Young Church – Sunday 7th February

This week is all about good news. In a time full of bad news with the current climate, what good news have you had? Have you enjoyed spending time with your family? Have you done a really good piece of school work?

Write a list of everything you are thankful for, and everything that has gone well recently. Then, once you have a completed list, say a little prayer to yourself for the things you have.

Here is the Bible reading for this week: Mark 1.29-39.

A prayer of praise and thanksgiving for children

Lord Jesus,
we praise you for showing us your priorities
and how to live out a life of faith,
in action and in stillness.
Amen.

Young church- Sunday 24th of January

This week, I would like you to think about everything that worries you, and how you can stop this. This current time is a very worrying time, so its understandable to have things that may upset or worry you. These could simply be not seeing your family or friends, or something more. Whatever worries you, think about it. Now… How can you stop this? Can you ring a family member to stop the worries or upset? Can you write them a letter?

The Bible reading for this week is Mark 1.14-20. Click on the reading to read it. What worries do you think the fisherman in the story will have had?

A prayer for others (for children)

We pray, Lord Jesus, for those who need to make decisions today:
give them courage.
We pray for those who long to do something different:
give them hope.
We pray for those who are doing their best to follow you:
give them reassurance.
Amen. (Taken from roots on the web)

A sending out prayer for children

When opportunity beckons: be bold.
When Jesus calls: be ready.
When we are asked to do something different: be prepared.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.

Young Church- Sunday 17th of January

This week, I would like you to think about how you can be the best friend to someone possible. What do you like about your best friend, and do you do that thing back to them? You could like how kind they are to you, so are you kind back to them? The saying ‘Treat others how you want to be treated’, is something that I think everyone needs to remember.

So, I would like you to get creative, and create a mindmap/Bubble map, about friendship. In the bubble, you will write ‘Treat others how you want to be treated’, and then around it, is everything you can do to be the best friend possible. These could include smiling at your friend, being kind, being helpful, or anything else you can think of. Think of aspects Jesus had, and how you can link them to yourself.

The Bible reading for this week is John 1.43-51. Click on the Bible reading to read it on Bible Gateway.

A prayer of praise and thanksgiving for children

We praise you, Lord Jesus, that we have your church to come to:
Hooray!
That we can see your love in the lives of others:
Hooray!
That we can hear your words in the Bible and be encouraged:
Hooray!
Amen. (Taken from roots on the web).

Young church – Sunday 10th January

Happy new year everyone! Lets make 2021 better than last year.

As it is the new year, I would like you to think about things you could do to make this year the best year so far. Obviously covid is still a thing… so what can you do to make this year great for everyone. This could be helping your parents by tidying your room, or phoning a family member or neighbour to stop them from being lonely. It could be a goal for yourself too. Less time on your phone or games, read more books than last year, get school work done earlier. Literally anything!! Set yourself a goal for 2021, and try to stick to it.

A prayer of praise and thanksgiving for children

Loving God,
we thank you for John the Baptist
whose voice spoke truth;
for the voice at Jesus’ baptism
which spoke of delight;
and for Jesus himself
whose voice calls us to follow him to new beginnings.
Amen.
